Exploring the role that mutation and speciation plays in Natural Systems and Ecologies, and the implications for design strategies and processes in Architecture. The historical relation of Architecture and Nature has been subject to radical revision in recent decades, and this change provides the cultural context of the article and lecture. Monsters and mutations are features of all biological systems, and the aggregation of differences are the means by which biological systems respond and adapt to environmental stresses and dynamic loadings. The robust design of natural living systems is not produced by optimization and standardization, but by redundancy and differentiation. An exploration of the consequences of adopting these models for architecture is explored.

Esta conferencia será expuesta por Michael Weinstock.
